Film Tampere proudly presents the next masterclass in cooperation with XYZ Films: The Rise of Nordic genre content.
This past decade, many of the international success stories of the Nordic audiovisual industry have revolved around genre films and series. Whether to do with gold diggers fighting nazis in Lapland or contemporary stories around motherhood, Nordic genre tales are on the rise. This masterclass is co-organized with Finnish Film Affair.
In this masterclass, the elements of international success are explored through case studies of Finnish genre films. Confirmed speakers include director Hanna Bergholm (Hatching, Finland), Managing Director Clare Binns (Picturehouse, UK) and CEO Tine Klint (LevelK, Denmark). The masterclass is moderated by Aram Tertzakian, co-founder of Los Angeles based genre giant XYZ Films, and hosted by Fanny Heinonen, business advisor at Film Tampere. Tampere has recently been the filming location for international genre titles such as The Dual and Avgrunden.

About the panelists:
Hanna Bergholm, Film Director (FI)
Hanna Bergholm is a Finnish film director. Her first feature film, horror drama Hatching, had its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival 2022 and has been sold to over 75 countries. Rotten Tomatoes named Hatching the 8th Best Horror Movie of 2022 in the Golden Tomato Awards. At film festivals Hatching has won awards and nominations including the Grand Prize and Youth Jury Award at the Gérardmer film festival in France, award for the best special effects in Sitges and three Jussi Awards in Finland. Previously Bergholm has directed internationally awarded short films and TV drama series. Her latest short fantasy film Puppet Master has been selected to several international film festivals including Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal 2018, Fantastic Fest in Austin 2018, and also to the MoMA Museum of Modern Art New York 2019.
Clare Binns, Managing Director of Picturehouse (UK)
Clare Binns is Managing Director of Picturehouse and is involved in all aspects of growing and running the most innovative and successful neighbourhood cinema group in the UK. Part of her role is running Picturehouse Entertainment. Winner of the 2009 WFTV Award for Contribution to the Medium, Clare has also been presented with career achievement awards from Screen and BIFA. Variety named her one of the 25 people driving the London entertainment scene and she is number 70 on The Guardian Film Power 100 list.
Tine Klint, Founder & CEO of LevelK (DK)
Tine Klint founded LevelK in 2009 and has dedicated the majority of her professional life to independent cinema with 20 years’ experience across international sales and aggregation. With a passionate team LevelK is specialised in rights optimization that are reflected through innovative approach to cross-platform/cross-country distribution combining theatrical and traditional means – alongside digital distribution and marketing. LevelK is handling traditional world-sales for independent films that will resonate with international audiences. Aggregation has been a strong part of the LevelK business since 2011, where the company now delivers films to all major world VOD platforms and local important platforms and/or telecompanies.Tine is a member of the European Film Academy, EFA Expert and LevelK a member of Europa International.
