Innovation competition begins – New digital services for Tampere’s smart urban environment

The SenCity project coordinated by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Tampere Region Economic Development Agency Tredea, and the open innovation environment, New Factory, are seeking innovative ideas for the development of digital services in central Tampere.
The SenCity DigiDay Idea Contest is open to students, businesses and communities. The aim is to find new, inspiring ideas for user-driven solutions for the city centre and its various functions.
The competition will culminate in the SenCity DigiDay event in Tampere on 17 May, during which digital service ideas will be further developed with the help of experts. DigiDay will end with the award of monetary prizes, enabling the best ideas to be demonstrated.
The target area is the Tampere Central Square and its surroundings, where concerts and other events are held, especially during the summer months. Also, the Central Square serves e.g. as a public transport hub on an everyday basis. Competition entries ralated to mass events, public transport, interactivity between the city and its residents, and augmented reality are especially welcome.
The smart lighting with communication and sensing infrastructure in the Central Square will provide the setting for demonstrating the best proposals. The first trials could begin during the autumn of 2016. In addition, the SenCity project can also support the demonstration activities and, if necessary, arrange piloting opportunities in other locations and cities.
SenCity DigiDay will be held in the TalentSpace/ Finlayson facilities at Satakunnankatu 18 A, Tampere, Finland.
