STREAM CONNECT is a series of startup-investor matchmaking and networking events organised by Platform6 and open to all startups in Tampere.
You are invited to Stream Connect. Episode 10. Deep tech: from R2B to Growth!
Deep tech has become a hot topic in Europe, with hopes that the region can have an edge over the rest of the world for innovation rooted in fundamental research. One of the key arguments: European countries have great universities and talent. But how can academic talent translate into startups? Since 2012, there have been at least 570 R2B projects launched in Finland that have led to some 150 spin-off companies. Aalto University, VTT, University of Helsinki and Tampere University combined have created 60% of these spin-off companies.
When: Wednesday, April 19th 2023, 15:00 – 17:00
Where: Platform6 startup house, Åkerlundinkatu 8, Tampere
In 2022, like many other sectors, deep tech faced significant headwinds. As interest rates skyrocketed, deep tech deals, which inherently take more capital than other kinds of software businesses, became less attractive to many VCs and their LPs than lower-risk investments. Even though quantum computing suddenly became popular in the public markets, private investment declined significantly – the sector received just over $600 million in venture capital in 2022, down from $800 million in 2021.
How can startups and investors navigate these challenges and still accelerate the growth of their ventures to global markets? Let’s explore and find out together at Stream Connect, episode 10!
