FREIJA’s shareholders have appointed Joni Lukkaroinen as Chair of the Board of Directors to oversee the execution of one of Europe’s largest eMethane projects in Finland. With more than 25 years of executive and board experience from global, capital-intensive industries, he further strengthens the company’s strategic capacity and experience from large-scale industrial buildouts. Lukkaroinen has extensive leadership and board experience from leading companies within Nordic and global industries, including from Neste, Metsä Group and Kronochem Group. He served as CEO of Terrafame for eight years and led the company through industrial and operational scale-up, and major investment programs. Lukkaroinen currently advises Arctial Group, the Vargas-, Rio Tinto- and Mitsubishi-backed company developing a multi-billion-euro primary aluminium project in Finland. Joni Lukkaroinen’s appointment comes as FREIJA progresses permitting, engineering and commercial activities for its development of large-scale eMethane production in the Tampere region. “Finland has exceptional conditions for developing competitive clean fuel production, combining renewable energy resources, industrial competence and a predictable operating environment. FREIJA has established a strong foundation for industrial-scale eMethane production, and I look forward to supporting the company’s progress towards investment decision and future operations,” said Joni Lukkaroinen. FREIJA is developing industrial-scale production of eMethane from green hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ to support the decarbonization of heavy-duty transport and maritime sectors. The company’s Tampere project is being developed in up to three phases and forms the cornerstone of a broader strategy to build scalable clean fuel production capacity in the Nordics aligned with growing European demand. “Joni brings a rare combination of industrial leadership, operational execution and deep understanding of the Finnish industrial landscape. He has successfully delivered large-scale industrial projects, built strong stakeholder relationships and created long-term value in complex international markets. As FREIJA progresses it project development and moves closer to execution, his experience will be highly valuable to the company,” said Tore Ivar Slettemoen,” co-founder and majority owner of FREIJA. The appointment reflects FREIJA’s continued focus on building the industrial, commercial and governance capabilities required to develop, finance and operate large-scale clean fuel infrastructure in Europe. Lukkaroinen currently serves as chair and board member across several industrial and energy-related companies in Finland and internationally, including renewable gas developer Ductor, mining company Sotkamo Silver and industrial manufacturing businesses. He has also held leadership positions within several Finnish and European industry associations. About FREIJA FREIJA develops industrial scale clean fuel production and distribution to enable carbon-neutral fuel provision for European transport. The company is advancing one of Europe’s largest eMethane production plants at Tampere, Finland, as the cornerstone of a multi-phased clean fuel production plan. FREIJA’s modular and roll-out production platform enables efficient scale-up for delivery of competitive synthetic natural gas (eMethane) into existing energy distribution systems to support emissions reductions in hard-to-abate transport sectors.
