Country of Residence

Where are you from?
I am from the United States, but I have only lived there for 12 years of my life, so I am very international. I have lived in Philippines and Germany as well, and in Finland for the last 20 years.

What would like to say about yourself?
I am an American-Finnish dual citizen with an international background. I was born and lived in the Philippines for 10 years, spent 12 of my school years in the US, two separate years in Germany as an exchange student and finally have lived in Finland for the past 20 years. I am fluent in speaking the Finnish language and use it daily in the business environment. German I learned to speak fluently as an exchange student and have continued to use periodically through the years.

In your opinion, why is Tampere the best place to live?
The city is beautiful and people are friendly. Tampere is also small, you can walk across town but you still have the same opportunities that you would have in a big city or even in another country.

What are your professional activities?
I am product manager, so I liaise between the costumer and the development team. My job is to get the story out to potential customers through many different means – web, personal meeting, phone calls, and emails – and then to take their feedback on our products back to the technical team so we can make our product better.

What is your involvement in international activities?
Since I have to promote our products abroad, I am constantly making contacts outside of Finland.

What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador?
Tampere has had multiple different stories throughout its years. First there were the cotton and clothing factories, then heavy industry factories such as Metso, and then there was Nokia. I think Tampere is looking for a new story right now. All these previous examples were known abroad, but now it is time to rethink. As an ambassador, I want to help build Tampere’s future history.

What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
I believe Tampere has a huge potential to be explored. The city just needs to focus on selling what it has to offer. There are lots of hardworking and high skilled people here – especially engineers – whose main motivation is to create good products, but there are not enough salespeople to get that message out.
