Where are you from?
I am from Taiwan, where I was born and had lived for 25 years. It is a beautiful island and full of friendly and warm-hearted people.
What would you like to tell about yourself?
I am married with a Finn and have 2 boys – 7 and 10 years old. I moved to Tampere since July, 1999. In the beginning I studied Finnish about 10 months in Onnenkieli and then worked in ICT companies around 15 years, such as Nokia, Accenture and Microsoft. I am active and social. I like to know new people and make friends. I have lots of friends in Tampere, Taiwan and elsewhere. It is easy to use modern technology to keep contact with them. Family is also very important for me. It brings me happiness and meaning of life.
Why is Tampere the best place to live?
Tampere is my favorite city since I moved to Finland. It is just the right size to me, not very big but there are all kinds of services available. There are lots of culture activities, like concerts, exhibitions and small and big festivals, different kinds of museums and good libraries. You can easily practice and follow different kinds of sports here and Tampere has also many shopping centers and special shops. So you will not feel difficult to find what to do during your free time. There are lots of public services like kindergartens for taking care of under school aged kids. They actively communicate with parents to make sure that children can grow safely and happily here. There are schools, colleagues and universities for getting basic and higher education. For the sick, poor and old people, hospitals, health care centers, old people’s houses and churches are available. It is also developing and growing, I can see it becoming more international compared about 17 years ago when I arrived here at the first time. You can get good service even in English for example when buying tickets and they are very helpful and patient if you need to find out more information. In Tampere there are also international companies to hire skillful and talented employees. Tampere provides kindergartens and schools in English and other languages. Here is also nice to live because environment is taken care, streets are clean and crime rates are low. Parks, lakes, amusement parks, forests and resorts are so near to us to get refreshed and refilled. There are still more than I can write here. We can discover more together.
What are your professional activities?
My professional activities in Taiwan were very variable, like an assistant to help clients to deal with issues related to Taiwanese Law, tax office, registration institutions and courts and interpret or translate English to Chinese or Chinese to English, a sales women to introduce Actual Living English courses for people to learn English in English language environment naturally, a receptionist to serve customers in a health care and beauty care chain store, a database administrator to manage and analyze big data to provide the report for the company to make decisions and an end user trainer to help to ramp up the new system successfully.
Later after moving to Finland, my professional activities have been in ICT area which develop mobile business and help people to achieve life mobility.
What is your involvement in international activities?
Since year 2000, together with a Finnish missionary who had lived in Taiwan for 16 years, we started activities for Asian people living in Finland. We formed Asian Fellowship and organized big international events and smaller group events together with Tampere Lutheran Church and Pentecostal Church. Our mission is to help overseas Chinese and Asian people to adopt their life in Finland and connect other Chinese and Asian people. After few years we concentrated only on Chinese groups and organized singing group, Bible study and Service in Chinese language. When needed I also voluntarily interpreted Finnish/English to Chinese or vice versa. While I was working in Nokia in year 2002, I also helped Manpower and Nokia to recruit Chinese employees for mobile phone localization testing.
What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador? How do you want to help?
My mission as a Tampere Ambassador is to create the bridge to connect people and business between Tampere and Taiwan/China. To make my mission successful I could cooperate with different institutions like Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and of course also with people I know in Finland, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and all over the world.
What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
Tampere is the second most important region in Finland after the capital area. Tampere could be made better internationally known for its high quality education and it has also potential for high technology development and industry, like ICT, medical and electronics. Tampere is well located and has good connections with other cities in Finland either by train, car or bus. We could also develop Tampere Pirkkala Airport to become more international to connect other countries directly. In the future Tampere will be more and more flourishing and connected with other cultures and nations with new blood, new ideas and new dynamics.
