Ambassador of Poland Tomasz Chłoń says Poland’s economic growth is creating opportunities for Finnish defense and technology companies. He visited Tampere on 22 May to attend a meeting organized by Business Tampere with defense industry and tech companies. “Poland is one of our most important partners. A frontline military power and NATO’s relatively largest investor in defense. A neighboring market. Finnish companies are investing in the country, and trade is thriving with this future G20 member,” says Harri Ojala, CEO of Business Tampere. Poland ranks among Finland’s top ten trade partners in both imports and exports: seventh as a country of origin and eighth as an export destination. Ambassador Tomasz Chłoń (Chargé d’affaires) and representatives from Business Tampere and regional partners gathered on Thursday, May 22, to discuss trade relations. High technology represents European resilience at its finest, and this is what drew Chłoń to Tampere as well, the article states. As a business example, Aamulehti highlights a company in the space technology sector: Iceye. The satellite company was founded about ten years ago by a Finnish and a Polish student who met during a course at Aalto University. Chłoń notes that just last week, the company signed a €200 million contract to deliver three radar satellites to the Polish Armed Forces. In addition, the ambassador says Erasmus cooperation between higher education institutions contributes to bringing the countries closer together. Poland has also been impressed by Finland’s energy infrastructure. Finland relies on nuclear and wind power. “You are a model for us when it comes to the energy system. Energy is still expensive in Poland, but we have a massive nuclear and wind power program underway,” Chłoń told Aamulehti. Matti Sommarberg, Chair of the Board at Business Tampere, is Poland’s Honorary Consul. The honorary consulate is also located on Kelloportinkatu in Tampere.
