Tampere and Pirkanmaa are making a significant leap forward: the grand opening of the Tampere and Pirkanmaa EU Office will take place on Wednesday, March 5. On the same day, the Driving Europe’s Semiconductor Future seminar will bring together experts from various fields to discuss the future of Europe’s semiconductor industry.

The semiconductor industry plays a crucial role in digitalization, the green transition, and security. To strengthen and support European chip production, the EU is investing over €43 billion through the Chips Act program. It is vital for the Tampere and Pirkanmaa region to secure as large a share of this funding as possible.

Tampere is already among the world’s top five semiconductor hubs, driven significantly by the Chips from Tampere initiative and the SiPFAB pilot line. According to Harri Airaksinen, Director of the Tampere Region EU Office, opening the office ensures that the Tampere Region is present where major decisions are made – and that the region is recognized as a key semiconductor cluster in Europe.
