Text, photos, videos: Petri Kangas / Business Tampere “LifeGlue Technologies has customers more or less around the world. Our estimate is that the market size, which is currently growing rapidly, will reach about 35 billion dollars by 2034”, says CEO and co founder Laura Kuittinen. The health technology startup led by Kuittinen has developed a 3D printable bioink. The innovation originally emerged from research at Tampere University and from a material suitable for printing a human cornea. “The bioink developed by Anni Mörö for the university project works well with several other cell types. It is patented, and Business Finland has granted us what is known as research to business project funding”, Kuittinen explains. The company has been registered in trade and corporate registers since early 2025. “LifeGlue Technologies is still quite small that we do not have premises of our own. With support from Business Tampere, we have access rights to the HealthHub community space. We hold meetings there and meet with investors”, Kuittinen says. Watch Kuittinen’s interview in the video. A platform for collaboration and development “We collaborate with both large and small companies, the kind that are part of the Tampere health ecosystem”, says Kati Kristiansson, Director of Research and Development at Pirha, the wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa. According to Kristiansson, the current focus areas include the use of artificial intelligence, the utilisation of health data, and preparedness and resilience. “We have around 20,000 employees, and Pirha serves about half a million residents. We are a major platform for research, development and innovation”, Kristiansson notes. With the AI boom, new services may emerge, or patient data may be used to support decision making or preventive medicine, she explains. In Finland and Europe, preparedness is currently a multidisciplinary effort with a lot of activity around it. “Pirha is taking part with its own projects as well”, Kristiansson adds.
