VEO’s long-term goal is to build a significant design and engineering center in Tampere. The city offers a strong technological talent pool and partner networks that are essential for addressing the evolving needs of the energy sector in the midst of the green transition. The international energy technology company VEO is rapidly expanding its operations in Tampere. The company is launching an extensive recruitment campaign centered around both the introduction of a new training program and the hiring of experienced professionals. The goal is to train and recruit ten new designers by the end of 2025 and establish a major design hub in the city.– At the moment, the only thing truly limiting our growth is the availability of skilled personnel. We would be able to take on more projects, but we need additional technical experts,” says the CEO of VEO, Timo Ala-Heikkilä.Tampere as a Strategic Platform for GrowthVEO’s decision to focus growth efforts in Tampere is no coincidence. The city not only offers a strong foundation in engineering expertise but also provides a broad network of potential partners.– We see strong potential in the entire Pirkanmaa region. It has a well-established talent base in electrical and automation engineering, as well as an excellent subcontractor market that enables us to scale, says Ala-Heikkilä.According to the company, the area hosts a large number of suppliers with strong potential for collaboration, especially in electrical design, switchgear manufacturing, automation, and installation services. VEO’s Tampere office in the Finlayson district currently employs about ten people, and that number is expected to triple over the next few years.Accelerating Growth Through Training and RecruitmentOne of VEO’s key growth initiatives is an intensive 33-day training program launching in October. The program is designed to equip recent graduates with bachelor’s or master’s degrees in engineering with the skills needed for design roles in renewable energy projects. Developed in collaboration with Academic Work, the training is tailored to meet VEO’s concrete customer needs.– This is a unique initiative for us. We’ve never implemented a training program of this scale at VEO before. The goal is for participants to transition directly into their new roles by the end of November,” says Matias Ringvall, Head of the Design Department. At the same time, VEO is also looking to recruit experienced professionals through direct hires. The company is particularly seeking experts in power engineering and automation with backgrounds in power distribution, hydropower, and energy solutions. The goal is to hire 3–5 Lead Engineers to manage projects and take on key roles within the teams.– We’re looking for both junior and senior-level professionals. We can offer clear career paths from design roles to project management or even into sales. If someone wants to shift their focus, we’re very flexible in supporting that,” says Ringvall.Powering the Green Energy TransitionMore than half of VEO’s nearly €135 million revenue comes from renewable energy projects. The company delivers electrification and automation solutions for wind and hydropower plants, hydrogen facilities, substations, and the marine industry. VEO is currently running projects in Finland, Sweden, Norway, and the United Kingdom.– Almost everything we do is connected to the green transition. For example, in the marine sector, we help shipbuilders reduce emissions through various electrification solutions,” says CEO Timo Ala-Heikkilä.Global Opportunities, Nordic FlexibilityVEO’s headquarters is located in Vaasa, Finland, but its subsidiaries in Sweden, Norway, and the UK offer international career opportunities. The company also supports family relocations abroad and plans to offer training programs in English in the future.– We are a Finnish company that can respond quickly and flexibly. Our competitive advantage lies in our expertise and ability to tailor solutions to meet our customers’ needs. And above all, our greatest asset is our people,” Ala-Heikkilä sums up.More Information:https://www.academicwork.fi/boostMiksi sähköinsinöörin kannattaa valita ura VEO:lla? 4 tiukkaa kysymystä tiiminvetäjälle | Academic WorkCareers – VEO Oy business growth energy transition
