STREAM CONNECT is a series of startup-investor matchmaking and networking events organised by Platform6 and open to all startups in Tampere.

In the coming years, investors are expected to shift their focus from investment round valuations to exits and distribution as key success metrics. The year 2023 is poised to be one of the toughest for exit values, making the pursuit of successful exits challenging. Investors are now exploring alternative exit strategies, such as Private Equity acquisitions, and are keen on shorter exit timelines. This shift is particularly beneficial for angel investors, who may see quicker returns on early investments and potentially increase their activity levels compared to 2023.

For startups, this trend marks the resurgence of the “Exit Slide” in pitch decks. Investors now anticipate that entrepreneurs will have a clear understanding of their funding pathway and potential exit strategies from the early stages. This expectation comes after a decade of prolonged exit timelines and the unfulfilled potential of a “secondary market”. Startups must now carefully consider their approach to Mergers & Acquisitions (M&As) and other exit avenues, drawing lessons from successful exits in recent years to identify the most effective strategies.
