Business Tampere receives a warm and appreciative welcome in Lviv, Ukraine

A delegation led by CEO Harri Ojala visited Lviv in early June and laid the groundwork with the city’s leadership for the work that Business Tampere will carry out in Ukraine.

Business Tampere is opening an office in Lviv to accelerate Ukraine-related business activities by companies in the Tampere city region. According to Harri Ojala, Ukraine values the fact that a region such as the Tampere city region is already actively building business relations while the country is still at war.

“They have a very positive and appreciative attitude. Finnish actors that are already present in Ukraine are particularly valued by Ukrainians because they are there now, when the situation is difficult,” Ojala commented to Aamulehti.

Business Tampere’s Lviv office will work in Ukraine on behalf of companies from the Tampere Region. The economic investment value of Ukraine’s reconstruction is generally estimated at around EUR 500 billion. Part of the country’s infrastructure will need to be rebuilt, while Ukraine is also visibly becoming more strongly integrated in European Union.

Active cooperation with Ukraine could bring dozens of jobs and up to EUR 100 million in business opportunities to the Tampere Region in the coming years.

Dual-use technologies and health technology

Alongside the defence industry, other companies from the Tampere region have already become active in Ukraine with the support of Business Tampere. Health technology companies are operating in the country, and business activities have been accelerated by participating in industry trade fairs. The Unbroken Centre in Lviv is a hospital as well as a comprehensive rehabilitation centre that works closely with international actors and companies.

Ukrainian companies are also looking to strengthen their presence in Western Europe, and the first dual-use companies have already established operations in Tampere. Investments in the Tampere region were accelerated at an invitation-only event in the spring, where Ukrainian companies presented their needs and opened up direct opportunities for cooperation.

Business Tampere has a dedicated Ukraine team that is able to create and strengthen partnerships efficiently. The team has language skills as well as years of experience in business practices in Ukraine.

During the summer and autumn, Business Tampere will provide guidance to companies interested in Ukraine on how to operate in the country and how Business Tampere’s office can support them.
