Last August, Tampere became the first city in Finland to host an official International Emmy® Awards semifinal judging session. The sports documentary finalists selected by an international jury in Tampere will now see their journey conclude at the International Emmy® Awards Gala in New York on 24th November.

The International Emmy® Awards, one of the world’s leading honors for television produced outside the United States, progresses through several stages of evaluation, including semifinal judging sessions held in select cities worldwide. In August, Tampere joined this global network as the jury gathered in the city to assess entries in the Sports Documentary category. Their evaluations shaped the final nominations that will be awarded in New York.

Hosting the session was a milestone for Finland’s growing presence in the global audiovisual industry. The event was organized by Film Tampere and Norse Key Distributions in cooperation with the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

– It is a great honor for Tampere to be involved in one of the most renowned events in our industry worldwide. This further strengthens our position as a Nordic hub and partner in the audiovisual sector, says Fanny Heinonen, Program Director at Film Tampere.

Representatives from Film Tampere and Norse Key Distributions will attend the International Emmy® Festival and Gala in New York, where they will highlight Finland’s contribution to this year’s awards cycle.

– It’s exciting to be in New York, where many international TV productions are realized, at the International Emmy Festival, representing Finnish and Nordic TV production together with Film Tampere. The Norwegian series “Oro Jaska/Shut Up!”, represented internationally by Norse Key, is also nominated at Monday’s awards gala, says Maria Kivinen, Head of Sales at Norse Key Distributions.

Finnish audiences will also follow with interest the nomination of Moominvalley Season 4 in the Kids: Animation category, marking the third time the series has been nominated for an International Emmy® Award. Produced by Gutsy Animations, YLE, Sky Kids and Viaplay, the nomination aligns with the 80th anniversary of the world’s only Moomin Museum, located in Tampere.
