A scaleup is, as the name suggests, a young company in the scaling or expansion phase. These companies have already overcome their initial growth challenges and are now looking to expand their business through exports to new markets.

Business Tampere supports these companies daily in their growth efforts.

Within Tampere’s regional startup ecosystem, the scaling phase has been designated as a key area for Business Tampere. Practical export efforts and market expansion activities are being carried out through initiatives such as the Scaleup Launchpad project, a collaboration between Finland, Sweden, and Estonia. Based on applications, seven companies from the Tampere region have been selected for the program.

Several participating companies have already made successful inroads into new markets. Notable examples include Commu, eGate, and Buildie Oy, the latter founded by Taneli Ristmeri, who was recognized as Finland’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the Federation of Finnish Enterprises in 2023.

At Business Tampere, the Scaleup Launchpad project is led by Project Manager Mikko Pesonen. (Video above mostly in Finnish).

At the end of January, a group of scaling companies from the Tampere region gathered in Tartu for a workshop alongside their counterparts from Norrköping and Tartu. During the event, the companies received support for their business development, and some had the opportunity to meet potential new customers.

Mirko Lännenpää from Taplause shared his experiences in internationalization with other scaleup companies during the workshop held in Tartu.

The companies participating in the project are introduced through concise blog posts on the website, which also features companies from the earlier phase of the initiative. All the Scaleup Launchpad companies can be found from same web site..
