University of Tampere (UTA) and Tampere University of Technology (TUT) merged to form Tampere University as of January 1st 2019. At the new University, technology and social sciences come together in a unique way. The research groups and projects conduct multidisciplinary research across institutional boundaries.
Tampere University has seven faculties:

The co-operation brings together about 40 000 students, researchers and staff members to form Tampere University community. TAMK welcomes 2,600 and Tampere University 3,000 new students each year!

Students of the universities continue their studies seamlessly in their original degree programmes and graduate from the new Tampere University. Students enrolled in the University of Applied Sciences remain in their cohort and will graduate from Tampere University of Applied Sciences. All students can tailor their studies with supplemental courses from within the community. Companies, surrounding society and NGO’s are essential partners and resource for learning and will guarantee a living, evolving field for applied and highest level of research.
What all this brings forth in the future is a completely new type of graduate – an individual with global solutions and problem-solving skills from both the academic and professional fields.
