We are looking for mentors who are:
- professionals in their own field
- interested in different countries and intercultural communication
- working in the private or public sector
- fluent in English
- working in the Tampere region
In 2018-2019, two mentoring programmes will take place at Talent Tampere:
International Talents’ mentoring programme is aimed for international degree students in one of the higher education institutions in Tampere (University of Tampere, Tampere University of Technology and Tampere University of Applied Sciences) or other international talents who have graduated from studies somewhere else, moved to Tampere and are looking to start their careers here. In this programme, mentoring is done one on one, i.e. each mentor is paired with one mentee. The mentoring programme will run from November to April.
Hidden Gems mentoring programme for spouses is run as part of the Hidden Gems programme exclusively for the spouses of international researchers working at one of the Tampere Universities. This may include the University of Tampere, Tampere University of Technology and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. The spouses have followed their partners to Tampere and wish to pursue their own career in the region. The spouses may be from different countries and career backgrounds. The mentors will be paired with two or three mentees for a duration of four months. The Hidden Gems mentoring programme will take place from November to February as part of the Hidden Gems agenda supporting dual-career couples. Mentoring offers an easy way to develop intercultural competencies and expertise in the global workmarkets. The mentoring programme gives mentors the opportunity to build contacts and develop mentoring skills through practical experience. The mentors will be paired up with international talents who are in the early stages of their careers in Finland.
The Talent Tampere mentoring programmes aim to improve the mentees’ job hunting skills, introduce them to the nuances of Finnish work culture, help them expand their professional networks, and enable them to share their international experiences with the mentors. Mentoring is a process whereby experienced professionals impart their knowledge and skills to aspiring talents at the beginning of their careers in Finland. Mentoring is a two-way relationship that benefits both the mentee and the mentor. It can also pave the way for further internationalization within the mentor’s organization.

Talent Tampere mentoring programmes in 2018-2019
Both mentoring programmes running in 2018-2019 will start in November 2018 and are conducted in English. The mentors are paired up with mentees and they meet face-to-face about five times. In addition, both programmes include four group sessions for all mentors and mentees:

- For the International Talents’ mentoring programme:
- Kick-Off Meeting Tue 6 November
- Mid-Programme Meeting Mon 21 January
- Wrap-up Meeting Mon 15 April
- For the Hidden Gems mentoring programme:
- Kick-Off Meeting Tue 12 November
- Mid-Programme Meeting Wed 9 January
- Wrap-up Meeting Mon 18 February
All group meetings take place in Kampusklubi located in the Tampere University of Technology campus area at 17-20.
The group meetings are all facilitated by our new facilitator, career psychologist Mariska Roelofs. Mariska is an experienced professional who knows the mentoring programme well and is herself an international, having come to Finland from the Netherlands in 2011. She believes in an interactive approach, focusing on a pleasant, open atmosphere where everyone can feel at ease and learn from each other.

The first mentoring programme was implemented already in 2010-2011 by WorkPlace Pirkanmaa project and mentoring programme is was then established as a permanent activity of Unipoli Tampere (a higher education co-operation network of Polamk, TAMK, TUT and UTA). The concept of this mentoring programme has gained nationwide popularity and has been used as a benchmark by other universities around Finland.
