”Open data, happy workers and a better world” − possibilities of open data presented at Mindtrek

The possibilities of open data and open interfaces for a new type of business and company culture will be unwrapped once again at the Open World Event of the Mindtrek conference on September 20th - 21st, 2017 in Tampere, Finland. Mindtrek introduces new technologies, and also for example Siemens’ journey towards a more open business culture.

The Mindtrek conference, presenting new technologies and scoping out future business trends, will be held again in Tampere, Finland, on September 20th - 21st, 2017. Mindtrek consists of several tracks, of which the Open World Event focuses on open source code, open data and open interfaces, and in particular on how companies from different sectors can exploit these and the kinds of business opportunities they generate. Open interfaces are also essentially related to other themes of the conference, as their business potential extensively affects technological innovations.

Topics discussed during the Open World Event will be examples of companies where utilising open source code has transformed business models in traditional companies such as Siemens, as well as cases in which it has enabled growth and internationalisation, such as in the cases of Futurice and Solita.

In recent years, cities and municipalities have invested extensively in opening up their data. This has been done for example in a cooperation program called the Six City Strategy which consists of the six largest cities in Finland: Tampere, Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo, Turku and Oulu. The Six City Strategy open data project is led in Tampere by Business Tampere.

“Since the year 2013, the City of Tampere has committed to transparency in both city strategy and mayoral program. We have come through especially in opening up traffic and location data. In the Six City Strategy open data project, Tampere was wanted as the lead because of its know-how and performance, but also for its open-minded attitude and commitment”, says Development Manager Matti Saastamoinen from Business Tampere.

Mindtrek is an international technology conference held in Tampere each year. The conference will be a presentation of new technological advancements, the challenges posed by technology, and the business opportunities it creates. Conference visitors are representatives of companies and public administration in different sectors, as well as students and researchers. This year, the event is expected to host over a thousand participants, just like it did last year.

We warmly welcome media representatives to the event!
